Why I am creating a blog
Why I am creating a blog
My whole life I have always wanted to change the world and help people, and to some extent I already have. While flying helicopters, I have been able to save the lives of over twenty people, and assist countless others. While I am certainly proud of that, I feel that there is still so much more I can do. I am learning more and more that saving people doesn’t always mean hoisting them off sinking boats or out of the dangerous surf. We are just as likely to save people by inspiring them to live a healthy lifestyle, which I believe is the vegan lifestyle. I understand that being a vegan can be difficult sometimes, especially for men. There are many stereotypes telling us we must consume animal products to be manly. I don’t believe that, and I will create a troop of courageous vegans who break that stereotype and inspire others to change the world. Together we can save people by promoting a cruelty-free lifestyle, we can save the animals, and we can save the environment.
How I started my vegan journey
My vegan journey started when I was 22 years old struggling in flight school. The stress and lack of sleep combined with always wanting to party left me consistently sick. I didn’t take excellent care of myself, and my body reacted with constant sinus infections and low energy. I was sick for nearly two weeks out of every month, which meant I couldn’t fly. I was way behind in my training, constantly living on antibiotics and was forced to go through surgery twice. Nothing seemed to work. As I was about to get medically discharged from flight school, I realized I needed to make some drastic lifestyle changes. I was at a critical point in my life where I had to get healthy, or I would miss my opportunity to follow my childhood dream.
Luckily, I had one doctor mention I should remove dairy products from my diet. His suggestion didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but I had tried everything else, so I complied. Amazingly, when I removed all dairy products, my sinus problems disappeared almost immediately and haven’t returned. This small dietary change and the huge impact it had on my health sparked my curiosity about the profound effects our diets have on bodies. My new curiosity led me to experiment, and I soon replaced red meat, followed by chicken shortly after. Eventually, I replaced all meat except for fish. I quickly learned that with every food I
replaced I felt better and experienced more energy than ever. For a long time, the only animal product I consumed was fish because I was convinced it was healthy, and I thought I needed the protein. I learned about the contaminants in fish and the hazards to our health and I eventually became vegan. At first, being healthy was my only motivation, but as I have continued to learn more, I understand the impact our choices have on the animals and our environment. Now in my thirties, I am in the best shape of my life and feel even better about living cruelty-free. Becoming a vegan was the best decision I ever made and it allowed me to follow my dream of being an aviator and experience amazing health benefits.
That’s some of my story, now please join me on my quest as I learn how to be a better man and inspire others along the way!
